The Golden Acorn is offered by the Washington State PTA for recognition of a volunteer who has given outstanding service to all children in the school community, not just an individual who has donated time to help in his/her child’s class or a staff member who is doing a good job. It is to recognize volunteer service “above and beyond” a particular job description.
Each year a Golden Acorn Award is presented by the Fairwood Elementary PTSA to a volunteer(s) or staff member in recognition of his/her dedication and service to the children of our school. A contribution in the name of the recipient(s) is made by the Fairwood PTSA to the Washington State PTA Financial Grant Foundation. From these contributions, the foundation is able to provide approximately $55,000 in scholarships to freshman students entering post-secondary education. We would like you to participate in the selection of this year’s award recipient(s) through your recommendations in the spring. The recipient(s) of this award will receive a Golden Acorn pin and their name engraved on the plaque in the school lobby.
The Fairwood PTSA also recognizes an Outstanding Educator each year for their exemplary dedication and support of our children. The Volunteer Service awards also recognize those volunteers who go above and beyond in their efforts to support PTSA programs.
